Frequently Asked Questions
Straight Answers From People Who Know Plumbing.
Can you repair my hot water system the same day?
In most cases yes. Our vans carry the parts that fail most often, including elements, thermostats, valves and thermocouples, so a lot of repairs are finished on the first visit. If your system needs a part we do not have on board, we will tell you when we can have it and get it back on as soon as it lands.
How much does a hot water system repair cost?
It depends on what has failed. An element, thermostat or valve replacement sits at the lower end, while a gas control valve or a fault that takes real diagnostic time costs more. We assess at no cost, give you a fixed price before any work starts, and you decide from there. There is no obligation to go ahead on the day.
What are the most common hot water faults?
On electric systems it is usually a failed element or thermostat, which is a straightforward fix. On gas systems it is more often the thermocouple, the ignition or the gas control valve. Leaking tempering and pressure relief valves are common across both, and so is sediment build up causing rumbling from the tank.
What if my system cannot be repaired?
If we find your system is past saving we will say so plainly, show you what we found, and give you the replacement cost breakdown.
When should I repair my hot water system and when should I replace it?
As a rough guide, a system under eight years old with a failed element, thermostat or valve is usually worth repairing, because the parts are inexpensive relative to the age of the unit. Once a system is past ten years and the tank itself is leaking, replacement is the better call, since a leaking tank cannot be repaired. Where both options are genuinely available we give you the cost of each and let you make the call.
If it needs replacement, can you install a new system on the same day?
In most cases yes. We carry the common electric and gas units, so a like for like replacement can usually be done on the same visit.
